DIY: Woven Basket Plant Stands

I’m a big fan of both textured accents and living plants in a space. I moved an indoor tree away from my ladder shelves in my studio, so to fill that corner I wanted large tiered planters. Instead of buying them, I decided to make my own, propping up woven baskets on wood table legs, securing them with screws to a wood disc inside.

I came up with this idea in the table leg aisle of Lowes (just like this table leg DIY project) and noticed in that aisle they also sold round wood circles too. I thought first of just cutting the table legs and securing them to the circles as a basic wood stand (also an option) but instead hid the wood circle inside the basket. These woven basket plant stands are easy to make, supplies and steps listed below.

First, gather your supplies: I used two baskets

I spent a few hours hiking in Muir Woods on Friday, that was such a cool experience. There’s something about walking dirt paths and being surrounded by 1,000+ year old redwood trees that feels grounding and makes the little things we worry about seem…so little. I recommend the visit if you’re ever in the Bay Area, it’s about 30 minutes north from the Golden Gate Bridge.

I bought a few more green plants for my studio (can’t stop, won’t stop) so I needed two new planters and decided to make them. Assuming all goes well with that DIY project, then I’ll share them later this week!

Beyond Storage: Four Uses for Closet Spaces

I was looking at the extra closet in my old home office, the one that’s filled with boxes of pictures and photo albums. If I digitize the photos and store the photo albums elsewhere, I could transform the closet into a beverage center or study spot which makes more sense since the space is used by my teenagers.

Of course one turns to the internet for research and to my delight I found more than just images of offices and wet bars, I came across clever mud rooms and reading nooks too. May I present the four uses I uncovered for closets, one’s that might serve a greater purpose for you beyond just storage. Note some of the images show niches but the design elements would work tucked into closets too.

Weekend Reading 6.6.21 | Centsational Style

It was a busy weekend between graduation celebrations and BBQs, I’m just sitting down Sunday evening to write up this post weary from running around but proud of all the graduates I know. One thing is for sure, it was nice to circulate among groups of people this weekend, it’s been so long!

June is always a lazy month and my teens sleep in late, which makes the mornings really quiet. I love the peaceful feeling that these still summer mornings bring.
